TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE – FURNACE

1. Check the settings on your thermostat

Check to make sure that your thermostat is set in the “HEAT” or “AUTO” position.
Make sure the temperature control selector is set above room temperature.
Check the FAN switch should be set at ON for continuous blower operation or AUTO if you want the blower to function only while the unit is operating.

2. Check breakers

Check the circuit breaker in the circuit breaker box (or electrical panel). Is it in the “ON” position?

3. Check the SSU switch (it looks like a light switch located on the furnace)

Check to be sure it is in the “ON” position
Check the fuse in the SSU switch by the furnace to insure that it still intact.

4. Be sure that you have changed your filter in the furnace recently

If the system is running but you have not changed your filter, the filter may need to be replaced.
An extremely blocked filter can cause your outdoor air conditioner unit to shut down due to lack of proper airflow.
Your filter should be changed on a regular basis (depending on the filter type).

5. Check all return air grilles to make sure they are not blocked by furniture

Check all supply air registers to make sure they are open and blowing air. (The return air grilles are normally located on your walls and are wide and flat).

6. Check for exhaust and intake blockage (high efficiency equipment only)

Make sure that snow or other debris are not blocking airflow into or out of your outdoor PVC pipes.

7. Check fuel level (fuel oil or propane)

If you are out of fuel and we are your heating oil supplier, call (800) 530-1363 and follow the directions to reach our driver on call.
